Capa para livro / Book Cover

Ora bem, esta entrada deveria ter sido publicada no domingo passado e chamar-se-ia Feliz dia da Mãe!

E a verdade é que eu comecei a escrevê-la na quinta-feira anterior mas, como vêm não a acabei!

Ultimamente, tem sido difícil cumprir com as minhas próprias metas!!

Well, this entry should have been published last Sunday and it would be call Happy Mother's day (here, in Portugal, mother’s day is on the first Sunday of May)! 

The truth is, that I started writing it on the previous Thursday but, as you can see, I didn’t finished it! 

Lately, it has been difficult for me to fulfill my deadlines!

Vou então mostrar uma prendinha que fiz para a minha mãe (espero que todos tenham tido um óptimo dia!!)

So, I’ll show you the little gift I made for my mother (I hope you all had/will have a great mother’s day!)

A minha mãe adora estes livros de passatempos: palavras cruzadas, sopas de letras, etc (e eu também, por acaso)   e anda sempre com um para todo o lado (e eu também). Ela gosta dos maiores, por causa de ver bem as letras mas, a maior parte deles tem capas muito estranhas / My mom loves doing crossword puzzles, spelling games, etc. (and I also, incidentally) and always carry one book around everywhere (and so do I!).  She likes the larger ones, because of the letters’ size but, most of them have very strange covers.

Por isso, resolvi fazer uma capa para ela transportar um livro (ou dois ou três).

So, I decided to make a cover for her to carry a book (or two or three).

Há uns tempos a minha mãe deu-me umas camisolas (que tinham sido do meu pai e do meu irmão) e que com as lavagens, feltraram; Sempre que acontecem coisas estranhas às roupas lá de casa, a minha mãe dá-mas, como desafio, a ver o que eu faço delas. / Some time ago, my mother gave me some sweaters (which had been my father’s and my brother’s) that felt with washing; when ever strange things happen to the clothes at their home, my mother gives them to me, as a challenge, to see what I’ll do to them

Cortei a parte de trás da camisola maior do que o livro e deixando margem para poder virar nas pontas /  I cut the back of the shirt greater than the book and leaving space in order to turn the edges   

Margens já viradas e cozidas (só nas extremidades)  /  Edges turned and sewed on the top and the botom 

Depois de ter cozido a margem direita lembrei-me de acrescentar um bolso! Para isso, usei a parte do canelado e  cozi uma mola para o bolso poder fechar/ I remember to add a pocket after I sewed  the right margin! I used the bottom part of the sweater and sewed a little black snap so the pocket can be closed

Usei este esquema  / I used this pattern

Usei feltro, principalmente, de várias cores, mas também bombazine (para o ninho) e seda lilás para as flores / I used felt mainly in different colors, but also corduroy (to the nest) and lilac silk for the flowers

Também só me lembrei de decorar o bolso depois de cozido! / I only remember to make the appliqué after I sewed the pocket! Much more difficult!

Apliquei uma rendinha a toda a volta / I sewed lace all around it

Cozi um botão metálico, em forma de coração, em cima de um botão redondo, cor-de-rosa  /  I sewed an heart shape  metalic button on the top of a round pink one.

O botão foi cozido com elástico fino tendo deixado uma volta para poder 'agarrar' o outro botão / I sewed the button with thin elastic having left a loop in order to 'grab' the other button

Esqueci-me de tirar uma fotografia com o livro fechado! / I forgot to take a picture with the book closed!

Adorei o resultado final e um dia destes ainda faço uma para mim!
I love the result! I’ll have to do one for me, one of these days!!
