As ilustrações são muito simples mas muito engraçadas. É uma delicia ver um papá no colo do filhote, que lhe lê a história, assim como o papá estar sempre de chapéu e gravata, mesmo na cama.
Os miúdos adoram a inversão de papeis e apreendem facilmente a dificuldade do filho Alexandre em pôr o papá na cama.

The graphics are very simple but very funny. It is a delight to see a dad in his son’s lap, reading him the story, as well the fact that the dad is always with his hat and tie, even in bed.
The kids love the role reversal and understand very easily the difficulty of the son Alexandre to put his Daddy in bed.
Esta colecção ‘Uma casa na Pradaria’, (edição Europa-América) composta por nove volumes, de Laura Ingalls Wilder é a obra literária em que se baseou a célebre série de tv.
Não sei se se lembram da série, era uma das minhas favoritas, em criança e por isso, a minha professora de piano (sim, sim, em tempos que já lá vão tive uma professora de piano, história para outro dia) ofereceu-me, num ano, um livro da colecção, o 2º volume para ser exacta, livro onde é relatada a estadia da família no oeste selvagem e onde a Laura trava conhecimento com os Indios. Aquele volume foi lido e relido e a partir daí a colecção passou a fazer parte da minha lista de pedidos de Natais e Aniversários. Rapidamente cheguei à conclusão que a obra literária era muito melhor que a série de tv!
Comecei a lê-los, à pequena Papgena, quando ela tinha 5 anos. Lemos os primeiros 4 volumes, os favoritos, da pequena, são o 1º volume e o 3º volume.
No primeiro volume, a Laura (personagem principal) tem 4/5 anos e vive na floresta do Wisconsin por volta de 1870 com os seus pais e a sua irmã mais velha Clara e a mais nova, ainda bebé, Carrie. A vivência desta menina é totalmente diferente da dos nossos dias mas, o que ela sente (amor pelos pais, conflito de emoções relativamente às irmãs, querer descobrir o que a rodeia, as asneiras, a festa do Natal) é intemporal por isso, foi muito fácil a pequena Papgena indentificar-se com a personagem.
No terceiro volume, a personagem principal é Almanzo, um rapazinho de 8/9 anos que vive numa quinta, no estado de Nova Iorque, com os seus pais, e os seus irmãos mais velhos (um rapaz e duas raparigas), por volta de 1860. O que disse para o primeiro volume aplica-se completamente a este.
A mim, deu-me muito jeito o quarto volume, pois usei-o como preparação para a descoberta de que não existe o pai Natal. Lemo-lo, pela primeira vez no verão de 2012, em vésperas da miúda entrar na escola primária e eu sabia que isso ia ser um tema candente (e não me enganei) por isso, usei o que a mãe da Laura diz às filhas, nas vésperas do Natal (a família tem pouco dinheiro e precisa de cavalos para poder desenvolver a pequena quinta que estavam a construir e ela pede às filhas que desejem cavalos para bem de todos, que sejam uma espécie de Pai Natal da família, que sejam altruístas) para começar a preparar o terreno. Na altura, não a deixei ler o 5º volume pois aí, já é um dado adquirido que o pai natal não existe. Mas, agora acho que ela já tem preparação para o ler, talvez até para o 6º volume também. Os últimos 3 é que se calhar ainda não.
Quando a pequena Papgena entrou na escola, talvez quinze dias depois lá veio ela com a novidade de que os mais velhos lhe tinham dito que não há Pai Natal, lá puxei eu a carta das nossas leituras e do símbolo do altruísmo mas o combinado é que cá em casa se continua a jogar ao Pai Natal (até porque temos uma criança mais pequena que também tem direito à sua quota de imaginário) e que não iria sair pelo mundo a correr dizer a todas as crianças que não há Pai Natal (tem muitos amigos mais novos). E ela tem cumprido!
Voltando aos livros, a miúda adorou-os. Não só gosta da história mas, acima de tudo, a descrição do dia-a-dia de uma familia num tempo tão diferente do nosso e com tão pouca tecnologia é algo que a encanta. As descrições de tudo o que fazem para obter comida por exemplo, desde o cultivar a horta, fazer criação de animais, fazer queijo, etc para ela, é uma descoberta. Estes livros estão no top da suas preferências e adora brincar à Laura e Maria.

I don’t know if you remember the series, was one of my favorites as a child and so my piano teacher ( yes, yes , long time ago I had a piano teacher , a story for another day) offered me, a book of the collection , the 2nd volume to be exact , where the family is the wild West and Laura becomes acquainted with the Indians . That volume was read and reread and from there the collection became part of my list of requests for Christmas and Birthdays . I quickly came to the conclusion that the literary work was much better than the tv series!
I started reading them , to little Papgena, when she was 5 years old . We read the first 4 volumes, her favorites are the 1st and the 3rd volumes.
In the first volume , Laura ( main character ) has 4/5 years old and lives in Wisconsin forest around 1870 with his parents and her older sister, Clara and younger sister Carrie . The day-to-day life of this girl is quite different from the present day , but what she feels ( love for her parents , conflicting emotions regarding the sisters, curiosity for what surrounds it , the meltdowns , Christmas, playtime) is timeless so it was very easy for little Papgena to love the character.
In the third volume, the main character is Almanzo , a boy of 8/9 years old who lives on a farm in upstate New York with his parents , and his older siblings ( a boy and two girls) , around 1860s. What I said to the first volume completely applies to this one too .
To me, the fourth volume come in hand, since I used it as preparation for the discovery that there is no Santa. We read it for the first time in the summer 2012, when pittle papgena was in close to entering elementary school and I knew this would be a hot topic ( and I wasn’t wrong ) so I used what Laura’s mother says to her daughters, on Christmas Eve ( the family has little money and they need horses to be able to develop the small farm that they were building and she asks her daughters to wish for horses , to be altruistic ) to start preparing the ground . At the time , I didn’t let her read the 5th volume because there is already established that there isn’t a Santa. But, now I think she has already prepared to read it, maybe even for the 6th volume also . The last 3, I’m not certain.
When little Papgena entered school , maybe fifteen days later, there she came with the news that the older kids told to the younger that there is no Santa, so I pulled book again and read to her that part again and we have a long talk about altruismand it’s symbols. But it’s a rule that here, at home, we continues to play Santa (because we have a younger child who is also entitled to its share of imagination) and that she wouldn’t go running to tell all children that there is no Santa (she has many younger friends ). And she has been brave and do it!
Back to the books , the girl loved them . Not only she likes the story but , above all, the description of the day-to-day life of a family so different from our time and with so little technology is something that delights her. The descriptions of everything they do to get food for example , from cultivating the garden , making breeding , making cheese , etc. for her, is a discovery . These books are on top of her preferences and loves playing Laura and Mary .

Por isso, quando encontrei este livro de bonecas de papel, foi um êxito absoluto. Horas e horas à volta delas (incluindo desenhar e recortar vestidos para elas).
So when I found this book of paper dolls, was a complete success. Hours and hours around them (including drawing and cut dresses for them).

Da mesma editora das bonecas de papel, encontrei uma colecção em inglês, de livros infantis ilustrados e adaptados. Cada titulo pega num acontecimento de um dos livros originais (o aniversário da Laura ou primeiro Natal do volume 1) e adapta o texto, tendo como principal atractivo as belíssimas ilustrações. Tenho comprado alguns para incentivar a pequena Papgena a ler em inglês.
From the same publisher of the paper dolls, I found a collection of children's books, in english, adapted and illustrated. Each title takes an event of one of the original books (Laura's birthday or first Christmas in the first volume, for example) and adappts the text, having as main attraction the gorgeous drawings. I bought some to encourage little Papgena to read in english.
