Fim-de-semana produtivo/A productive weekend

Apesar de ter tido pouco tempo neste fim-de-semana, consegui fazer duas coisas: tornar um casaco numa peça para usar e completar o saco de livros deste post de Janeiro!

Nos saldos de 2009 tinha comprado este casaco, tamanho 4 anos para a minha filha, já a pensar nesta Primavera.

A semana passada fui buscá-lo à gaveta, o sol finalmente apareceu, para ela o vestir. Qual não foi a minha frustração, quando me dei conta, que era dificílimo fazer passar as mãos pelos punhos do casaco.

Despite having little time this weekend, I managed to do two things: make a jacket wearable and completed the books’ bag of this January’s post!

In the sales of 2009, I had bought this jacket, 4 years size, for my daughter wear in this spring. Last week I went to get him from the drawer, the sun finally appeared, but I realized that it was very difficult to pass the hands through the jacket’s cuffs.

Os punhos estavam construídos com duas camadas de tecido: a exterior em bombazina e a interior em algodão. Mas a costura tinha uma fita de viés e os pontos estavam tão apertados que todo o conjunto fazia com que a manga afunilasse, o que tornava a passagem do braço e da mão numa luta (na fotografia eu estou a fazer o máximo de força possível e no entanto o tecido não estica mais do que aquela abertura).
Fiquei mesmo, mesmo desalentada! No entanto, ganhei coragem e resolvi desmanchar os punhos. Perdido por cem perdido por mil !!
The cuffs were constructed with two layers of fabric: the outer in corduroy and the inner in cotton. In the interior, joining the two layers of fabric, there was a bias tape but the points were so tight that the entire group made the tapered sleeve, which made the passage of the arm and hand in a fight (in the picture I'm doing as much strength as possible and the fabric does not stretch more than that opening). I was really, really disgustes! However, I gained courage and decided to undo the cuffs. No pain, no gain!

Com o tira-linhas desmanchei todos os pontos e retirei a fita de viés. Depois com alfinetes coloquei a tira de bombazina a toda à volta da manga mas, dei-me conta que ela não era grande o suficiente para cobrir toda a manga. Por isso peguei no tecido de algodão e sobrepus na bombazina de forma a completar o círculo.

Cozi tudo à mão (não me atrevi a usar a máquina):

I cut all the points and took the bias tape. Then with pins I placed the corduroy's strip all around the sleeve, but I realized it was not large enough to cover the entire sleeve. So, I took the cotton fabric and overlap it, in order to complete the circle.

I hand sew everything (I didn’t dare to use the machine):

Agora o casaco já é facilmente vestido e despido!

Fiquei mesmo orgulhosa de mim!!!

Now the jacket is already easily dressed and undressed!


I was really proud of myself!

Relativamente ao saco dos livros do post de Janeiro: na altura a Susana, do blog prettycrafty tinha sugerido que eu descozesse o cartão, colasse e tapasse com uma fita os buracos da agulha! Achei uma óptima sugestão mas, só agora consegui dedicar-me a ela!!!
Não descosi, confesso mas, peguei na pistola de cola quente e colei uma fita grega a toda a volta do cartão e acho que o saquinho ficou com outro ar!! Um pequeno retoque e uma coisa mal feita passa a ter logo outra cara!!!

In January, when I showed the books’ bag, Susana from prettycrafty had suggested that I glued the cardboard and overlap it with a tape to hide the needle’s holes! I found a very good suggestion, but only now I was able to devote myself to it!
With the hot glue gun, I glued a ric-rac all around the card and I think it worked very well!
A little touch and an bad outcome turns in a good outcome!

Lenda das Amendoeiras/Almond Tree’s Legend

Em Março a educadora da minha filhota lançou um TPF (trabalho para a família) para ser entregue em Abril.
Deu a cada criança uma folha A3 de cartolina e a indicação de que deveríamos escolher uma lenda de Portugal, ilustrá-la na cartolina e depois disponibilizarmo-nos (um dos pais) para ir contá-la a todas as crianças.
Depois de muito pensar e de alguma pesquisa, resolvi-me pela lenda das amendoeiras. Sempre achei esta história encantadora e, ao contrário de muitas das nossas lendas, não é nada sanguinolenta! :D uma vez que, se trata de uma audiência de crianças de 3 anos pareceu-me um ponto bastante importante!!
Back in March, my daughter’s teacher threw a family’s work, to be delivered in April.
She gave to each child an A3 sheet of cardboard and an indication that we should choose a Portugal’s legend, illustrate it on cardstock and then one of the parents should go to school and tell it to all children.
After much thought and some research, I decided myself for the almond tree’s legend.
I always thought this is a charming story and, unlike many of our legends, it's nothing bloody!

Since it was an audience of children aged 3 years seemed to me it was a very important point!

Comecei por pesquisar na internet por imagens: trabalhei uma imagem de um mapa da Europa e de Portugal para realçar o Algarve e coloquei os nomes antigos (Al-Gharb e Chelb). A Europa também era importante porque assim podia mostrar a zona geográfica de onde a princesa era oriunda.
Depois procurei uma imagem que se adequasse à princesa Gilda e outra para o príncipe Ibn-Almundim.
Em seguida transformei uma caixa de bolachas numa sala de um castelo.
I started by searching the internet for images: I worked a Europe’s map picture to highlight the Portugal’s Algarve and put the old names (Al-Gharb and Chelb). Europe also was important because this could show the geographical area where the princess came from.
Then I choose an image that would fit the Princess Gilda and another for the Prince Ibn-Almundim.
With a box of crackers I made a castle’s room.

Criei então, dois fantoches de dedo: uma princesa e um príncipe.
Provavelmente foi a parte do trabalho que mais gozo me deu fazer e com que a cachopa mais se entusiasmou! :D
I then created two finger puppets: a princess and a prince.
It was, probably, the part of the job that gave me more enjoyment and that made little Papgena happier! :D




Depois por baixo da sala do castelo coloquei uma fotografia de uma paisagem do interior do Algarve e uma de amendoeiras em flor (de forma que ao contar a história a paisagem pudesse mudar).
In the castle’s bottom I put a photograph of a landscape of the countryside and a blossom almond tree (so, when I told the story I could made change the landscape).

Here is the final work: Ontem fui à escolinha contar a história. Estava um pouco assustada. Nunca tinha contado uma história a tantas crianças ao mesmo tempo (são 24 ou 25 ao todo) mas, correu tudo muito bem. Todas se portaram lindamente, ouvindo a história com muita atenção. E a filhota estava super feliz a ajudar a contar e a manipular os fantoches!!!
Adorei a experiência!!
Yesterday, I went to kindergarten to tell the story.
I was a little scared. I have never had told a story to so many children at the same time (they were 24 or 25 in all) before, but it went very well. All behaved beautifully, listening to the story carefully. And the little girl was very happy to help count the story with the puppets!
I loved the experience!

Alcançando o Possivel /Reaching the Possible

Em Fevereiro, quando escrevi sobre o amigurumi, disse que tinha um novo projecto, ovos, para Abril.
No livro há uma imagem de uma caixa de ovos, com ovos em crochet e metades de ovos com pintainhos de crochet lá dentro. Achei uma ideia engraçada.
A minha intenção era fazer umas caixas de ovos, em que os ovos tivessem amendoas e os pintainhos seriam feitos com pom-pons.
Tudo programado, comecei a colecionar caixas de ovos (num àparte: já repararam como há cada vez menos daquelas caixas tradicionais de 6 ovos? Agora são todas de 12, corridas).
A seguir ao projecto da prenda do meu sobrinho comecei a fazer os ovos (mais exactamente as metades de ovos, porque era suposto eles abrirem).
No entanto, se juntarmos um mês de mais trabalho, muitos compromissos familiares e pouca saúde pelo meio, teremos como resultdado chegarmos às vésperas da Páscoa e faltarem muitos ovos!!!
Que fazer?
Como se costuma dizer: quem não tem cão, caça com gato!!!
Peguei nas caixas, imprimi os rótulos e dentro delas, coloquei ovos e coelhos de chocolate. Embrulhei amendoas em papel de seda, tentando dar a forma de ovo e....
In February, when I wrote about amigurumi, said he had a new project, eggs, in April.
The book contains an image of a box of eggs, with eggs in halves of crochet and crochet eggs with chicks inside. I found a funny idea.
My intention was to make boxes of eggs, the eggs had almonds and little chiks would be made with pom-pons.
All set, I started collecting boxes of eggs (do you noticed how there are fewer of these traditional boxes of 6 eggs? Now is all of 12).
Following the project's gift to my nephew, I started making eggs (actually halves of eggs because they were supposed to open).
However, if we add a month of much work, many family commitments and ill health in the midst, I arrived on the eve of Easter and missing a lot of eggs!
What to do?
As they say: who has no dog hunts with a cat!
Got boxes, print labels, put eggs and chocolate bunnies. Almond wrapped in tissue paper, trying to make an egg shape and...







Talvez para o ano consiga concretizar a ideia deste ano pelo menos, já tenho algumas metades de ovo de avanço!!
Maybe next year can materialize this year’s idea, at least I have some egg halves in advance!

Páscoa Feliz/Happy Easter

Hoje no Correio/Today in the Mail

Se repararem na barra lateral direita deste blog, verão alguns dos blogs por quem me interesso.
Um deles é o Les Croniques de Frimousse.
Embora, escrito em francês, língua que não domino, se ler muito, muito devagarinho consigo entender e acho que vale a pena porque a Brigitte é uma artesã talentosa!
Um dos seus trabalhos, a que eu acho mais graça, é o do ponto de cruz em 3D, nomeadamente as suas casinhas.
Ela também é uma artesã generosa, porque partilha com os leitores, as grelhas e os truques, para podermos reproduzir os temas apresentados.
Por exemplo, no Natal fiz um presépio para a nossa árvore. A pequena Papgena adorou e agora quando vê o site da Briggite, quer que eu faça tudo: ‘mamã também podemos fazer isto e isto e isto!!”.
No princípio deste mês a Brigitte postou o lançamento do seu primeiro livro ‘Contes à points Comptés’ e eu apressei-me a contactá-la para o adquirir.

One of these is Les Croniques de Frimousse.
Although written in French, a language that I do not master, if I read it very, very slow I can understand it and I think it is totally worth it, because Brigitte is a talented artist!
One of her works that I like best it is her 3D cross-stitch, her little houses.
She is also a generous artist because she shares, with her readers, the grids and tricks so that we can reproduce the issues presented.
For example, at Christmas I made a crib for our tree. Little Papgena loved it so much, that now when she sees Briggite’s site, she wants to me to do everything on it: 'Mommy we can also do that and that and that!".
In the beginning of March, Brigitte posted on the release of her first book ‘Contes à points Comptés’ and I rushed to contact her to acquire it.
It arrived today:


Tão lindo!
A autora pegou em 3 histórias infantis: Barbe-Bleu (o Barba Azul), Blanche-Neige (Branca de Neve) e Le Petit Poucet (O pequeno polegar), e criou grelhas de ponto de cruz que as ilustram, montando-as depois em 3D, num cubo.
São 32 páginas com todas as grelhas, indicações de fios, cores, tecido e agulhas utilizadas bem como, instruções de como montar o cubo.
Uma óptima fonte de inspiração!!

The author took three children's stories: Barbe-Bleu (the Blue Beard), Blanche-Neige (Snow White) and Le Petit Poucet (Little Thumb), and create cross-stitch grids that illustrate them and after riding in 3D, a cube.
There are 32 pages with all the grids, indications of thread’s colours, fabric and needles used as well as instructions on how to build the cube.
A great source of inspiration!

Espero que todos os pais tenham passado um dia excelente!!
Se é um filho ou filha despassarado que se esqueceu completamente da data, não desespere e não deixe que o seu pai perceba!!
Se está longe, telefone! Se está perto, faça uma visita surpresa!
E não se esqueça de um miminho! Quem é que não gosta de mimos?!
Se não se lembrou de comprar uma lembrança, tudo se resolve!
Vá ao pc e impressora mais próximo e imprima uma folha com os dizeres “Vale: uma surpresa a caminho!”, assine e ofereça ao seu pai. Depois, com calma, encomende pela internet (pode fazê-lo a qualquer hora) um livro, a assinatura de uma revista ou jornal, uma caixa de vinho, um chocotelegrama (um telegrama feito de chocolate), um album digital ou outro artigo que o seu pai goste e peça para entregar na casa dele!
Vê que não é dificil???

Jardinagem/Gardening

Este fim-de-semana, esteve um sol lindo e por isso, no sábado, decidi tratar do meu jardim que estava em muito mau estado:
This weekend, was a gorgeous sun and so, on suturday, I decided to go outside and gardening because it was a mess:

Percebem o que eu quero dizer?
Com estes meses de chuva contínua as minhas plantas ficaram com este aspecto horroroso.
O vaso grande é de cravos, o vaso grande com uma estaca foi de um feijoeiro, um projecto do ano passado, combinado com a creche, para a miúda ver crescer as plantas.
Os outros vasos, tinham rótulos a dizer o que eram mas, já não se lê nada!
Por isso, o que fizemos foi esvaziar todos os vasos da terra ensopada e cheia de raízes. Os cravos foram realojados no mesmo vaso mas, com uma mistura de terra diferente.
Entretanto, tinha uma caixa plástica rectangular que costumava ser o aquário da tartaruga cá de casa. No entanto, achamos por bem comprar um maior, a bichinha tem crescido e tinha essa caixa parada.
Assim, pedi ao mais-que-tudo que fizesse vários buraquitos ao longo dos lados maiores (eu e o berbequim não temos uma boa relação):

In these months of continuous rain my plants were with this horrific aspect.
The large vessel has carnations; the large vessel, with a stick, was a bean, a project, last year, with the day-care, so the kid could watch the plants grow.
The other vessels had labels, saying what they were, but fade away!
So what we did was to empty all the vessels of soaked and full of roots’ earth. The carnations were relocated in the same vessel but with a mixture of different land.
I had a rectangular plastic box that used to be our turtle’s aquarium. However, we thought it was better to buy a larger one, because he has grown and this box was empty.
So, I asked my husband to made several little holes along the long sides (the drill and I do not have a good relationship):
Enchi com terra e, em filas paralelas, eu e a pequena plantamos/semeamos (sou uma moça da cidade, nunca sei qual é a palavra adequada), cebolas, manjericão, tomates, cenouras e umas flores.
Para não me esquecer do que vai estar na terra, peguei nos frascos que vou guardando (e que já tiveram compotas, azeitonas, café, etc) e coloquei lá dentro as embalagens das sementes.
Depois colei com fita de pintor à caixa. Mas, não gostei nada do aspecto e, ainda por cima, a fita acabou antes de os colar todos!!!
I filled it with earth and in parallel rows; me and my daughter, put seeds of onions, basil, tomatoes, carrots and flowers.
In order that we don’t forget what will be on the ground, I took the jars that I'll keep (and that used to have jam, olives, coffee, etc.) and placed inside, the packaging of seeds.
Then, I try to stick them to the box with tape. But I didn’t like how it looks and on top of that, the tape ended it just before I could stick all the jars!

Por isso, no domingo, descolei os frascos todos e resolvi usar a pistola de cola quente. Ficou com um aspecto muito mais limpo e arrumadinho:
So on Sunday, I took off all the jars and decided to use the hot glue gun.

gora é só esperar que a natureza faça crescer as plantinhas! Assim como descobrir se a cola quente vai resistir à passagem do tempo e das estações mas, para já, o meu jardim ficou muito mais bonito e apresentável!!!! :)
Now we're waiting for nature to make the plants grow! And we'll find out if the hot glue will withstand the test of time and seasons, but for now, my garden is so much more beautiful and pleasent!! :)
